Reporting

Monthly financial reporting

Numbers only help if you can read them. Every month you get clean, simple reports and a short note in plain English about what changed.

The short answer

Monthly financial reporting gives a business owner a profit and loss statement, a balance sheet, and a cash flow view after the books are reconciled each month. Stark Bookkeeping Solutions sends these reports from QuickBooks Online along with a short plain English summary so owners understand how the business is doing and can make decisions with confidence.

What's included

  • Profit and loss statement (income statement)
  • Balance sheet
  • Statement of cash flows
  • A short plain English summary of what stood out
  • Reports ready for your CPA, lender, or business partner
  • Month over month comparisons and AR or AP aging summaries, available on request

Why monthly reports matter

Most small business owners only see their full numbers once a year, at tax time. By then it's too late to fix a pricing problem, cut a subscription you forgot about, or notice a customer who stopped paying.

A monthly check in on your numbers takes five minutes to read and helps you steer instead of guess.

The three reports every owner should know

Profit and loss

Shows what you earned and what you spent over a period of time. It answers the question "Did I make money this month?"

Balance sheet

A snapshot of what the business owns, what it owes, and what's left over for you on a given day. Lenders care about this one a lot.

Cash flow

Explains why your bank balance doesn't match your profit. Loan payments, owner draws, equipment purchases, and unpaid invoices all show up here.

Reports you'll actually read

You get the same three reports every month, so they're easy to compare and quick to read. Along with them comes a short written summary that points out what changed from the month before, so you're not hunting through the numbers yourself.

Need something specific? Month over month comparisons, year to date views, and AR or AP aging summaries are available on request. Just ask.

Who uses these reports

  • You, to make better decisions every month
  • Your CPA, to prepare taxes faster
  • Your bank, when you apply for a loan or line of credit
  • Partners or investors who want regular updates

Questions I get a lot

What financial reports does a small business need each month?

At a minimum, a profit and loss statement, a balance sheet, and a cash flow view. Together they show whether you're profitable, what you own and owe, and where your cash actually went.

When will I get my monthly reports?

Reports go out once your accounts are reconciled and the month is closed. That depends on when your bank and card statements are available, and I'll set a regular schedule with you when we start.

Can you explain my reports to me?

Absolutely. Every report comes with a short plain English summary, and you can always text or call me with questions.

Are these reports good enough for a bank loan?

Accurate, reconciled monthly reports are exactly what lenders ask for. Some lenders also require statements reviewed or prepared by a CPA, so check your lender's requirements.
